Once upon a time, there was a girl named Jen, she won prizes all the time, from trips to free samples and everything in between. She had a pretty cush job where she was able to enter contests all day long while keeping up with her work. Then one day, it happened, she got a better job, at a better company, and her leisure time at work was gone! She tried to keep up but as work got harder, and the hours got longer, while she was trying to plan her wedding she just couldn't keep up. Something had to go, and contests is what went.
A year and a half later, married, Jen is moving onto another new job, at a great company but with better hours and a better work-life balance. As her days at her old job are winding down, she's decided to reinvest free time into entering contests. With this renewed interest and ability to enter contests, Jen decided to relaunch her old website, I Heart Contests, and so, here we are today.
I plan to revisit past wins, over the next few weeks, and hopefully new wins start to come in. For 2007, on my taxes I had to report about $3,000 in winnings, although, all in, I would estimate my winnings for 2006 at about $10,000. For 2007, I have no tax winnings to declare, and probably would estimate my total wins for the year, at about $300 (this is a very loose estimate). For 2008 my goal is to get back up to my 2006 days, I think a fair estimate would be to be able to declare $2,000 in winnings to Uncle Sam, and then come away from the year at $5,000 - if I can do more, yay! if not, I won't be too disappointed. My real goal for the year would be at least 1 really big prize - perhaps a house, vacation or car. I know this isn't quite realistic but a girl can dream can't she!
That said - I should go back to wrapping up my current job. My last day of work is Friday, February 22, then I have off all week next week, and start my new job March 3.
While this blog is titled I Heart Contests, it will be about more than just contests. I definitely dable in my fair share of freebies, samples, and interesting events, etc. I live in Manhattan so without a doubt any events discussed here will probably be in NYC but I will also be discussing online things so that wherever you may be in this world, you can partake!
